SSHS G-Unit Elections 2009

The G-Unit elections are taking place this coming Sunday. We’ve made this post especially for you to be able to read the full job description for each position. You can also download the G-Unit application form here!

2009 – 2010

G-Unit Job Descriptions

CORE TEAM – ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE

Moderator: Brian Kim

The CORE team will be in charge of all SSHS Youth Ministry activities that take place throughout the 2009-2010 Sunday School year. This involves Fellowship Activities, Volunteer Service Activities, and Fundraising Activities. In addition to the production and overseeing of YM activities, the CORE team is expected to fulfill miscellaneous duties as they arise. This is the CORE!

PRESIDENT – Fellowship Activities Officer (Open to Seniors)

: In charge of HS’s state, the President will cover all bases for the planning and coordination of “Fellowship Activities” such as the Halloween, Christmas and Valentines Party, Potlucks, Movie Nights, etc. The president represents the students and serves as the liaison between the student body and faculty. The president will be in charge of leading meetings, planning and executing these activities based on the “Activity Planning Checklist.”

VICE PRESIDENT – Community Service / Outreach Activities Officer (Open to Juniors)

: To assist president in all duties and responsibilities. The Vice President will cover all bases for the planning and coordination of “Community Service Activities” such as serving at Soup Kitchens, visiting Convalescent homes and more. These opportunities represent a desire to spread the message of Peace and Love as found in the Gospels. The Vice President will be in charge of leading meetings, planning and executing these activities based on the “Activity Planning Checklist.”

SECRETARY – Fundraising Activities Officer (Open to Juniors and Sophomores)

: Must be highly detail oriented and organized. The Secretary will cover all bases for the planning and coordination of “Fundraising Activities” such as the Bake Sale and Easter Basket Sale.  The Secretary will also be in charge of documenting all meetings that take place during G-Unit meetings and e-mailing the Teachers and the G-Unit the minutes of the meeting. In addition, the Secretary will take weekly attendance for the Youth Group.

TREASURER (Open to all grades)

: The Treasurer acts as the book-keeper for the class and will be in charge of managing all monetary transactions for the Youth Group as a whole. The Treasurer will keep track of money collected for all activities such as Class Registration, Inspiration Payments, Fundraiser Profits and more. Money collected will be tallied and immediately be turned into the Financial Officer for Sunday School. The Treasurer must receive a receipt from the Financial Officer for all money that has been submitted that week, and turn this receipt into the HS teachers. Money collected should NEVER be kept or taken home.

AMBASSADOR COMMITTEE

Moderator: Christine Ye

The term ‘ambassador’ refers to a diplomatic official of the highest rank, sent by one sovereign or state to another as its resident representative.  As authorized messengers of Christ, the Ambassador Committee seeks to warmly bring in new members of the community, maintain rapport within the class as well create and promote a spirit of hospitality in the youth ministry. 

Comprised of representatives from each grade level, these members will maintain clear lines of communication regarding upcoming events, create materials to help welcome new students, and encourage a spirit of welcome to all those they meet.

SENIOR AMBASSADOR

: Welcomes all new students and current students with spirit of hospitality.  Creates and maintains welcome board highlighting new students with help of Freshman Ambassador.  Takes a natural leadership role as the Senior Ambassador and helps to oversee other class Ambassadors.  Enthusiastically promotes program and is active participant in class and at events.  Brainstorms events to create class fellowship.  Ensures all class members are registered and accounted for at each class.  Calls students within grade level for all activities and assignments.  Fills out and updates call sheet for each call assignment. Stays on top of any contact information changes and updates. Passes out monthly liturgy guides before 1st mass.

JUNIOR AMBASSADOR

: Welcomes all new students and current students with spirit of hospitality.  Creates and maintains adequate stock of ‘welcome kits’ on hand to be presented to new students.  Collaborates with Sophomore Ambassador to gather a ‘welcome kit’ comprised of important contact information, mass times, fun music, websites, and small gift.  Enthusiastically promotes program and is active participant in class and at events.  Brainstorms events to create class fellowship. Ensures all class members are registered and accounted for at each class.  Calls students within grade level for all activities and assignments.  Fills out and updates call sheet for each call assignment. Stays on top of any contact information changes and updates. Passes out monthly liturgy guides before 1st mass.

SOPHOMORE AMBASSADOR

:Welcomes all new students and current students with spirit of hospitality.  Creates and maintains adequate stock of ‘welcome kits’ on hand to be presented to new students.  Collaborates with Junior Ambassador to gather a ‘welcome kit’ comprised of important contact information, mass times, fun music, websites, and small gift.  Enthusiastically promotes program and is active participant in class and at events.  Brainstorms events to create class fellowship.  Ensures all class members are registered and accounted for at each class.  Calls students within grade level for all activities and assignments.  Fills out and updates call sheet for each call assignment. FRESHMEN AMBASSADOR

: Welcomes all new students and current students with spirit of hospitality.  Creates and maintains welcome board highlighting new students with help of Senior Ambassador.  Enthusiastically promotes program and is active participant in class and at events.  Brainstorms events to create class fellowship.  Ensures all class members are registered and accounted for at each class.  Calls students within grade level for all activities and assignments.  Fills out and updates call sheet for each call assignment. JOURNALISM / YEARBOOK COMMITTEE

Moderator: Joe Kim

The Journalism and Yearbook Committee is in charge of the SS Scoop Student Newsletter, the Yearbook DVD, and the Monthly Liturgy Guide for English Mass. The SS Scoop will be completely digital and cover relevant Catholic current events, SS Youth Group activity articles, and other announcements pertaining to the Youth Group. The yearbook will be in DVD format with activity videos, student interviews, plays, special features and more! The Monthly Liturgy guide is a newsletter to help parishioners for English Mass, particularly the teens, be fully present and participating during mass.

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF (Open to Seniors)

: Has the main goal of producing an awesome end of year Yearbook DVD. This is a year long process, to make the yearbook as special as possible. The EIC is in charge of the Journalism/Yearbook Committee as a whole; arranging meetings, handing out deadlines and making sure they are met.  The EIC must also create the Monthly Liturgy Guide for English Mass.

ASSISTANT EDITOR (Open to Juniors and Sophomores)

: The Assistant Editor is in charge of maintaining the online version of the SS Scoop. Each month, the SS Scoop must produce at least one activity article, and one current event article. The AE is in charge of delegating article assignments to staff writers and ensuring that deadlines are met. The AE will maintain and update the SS Scoop page on the youth website.

PHOTOGRAPHER / HISTORIAN (Open to all grades)

: The Photographer / Historian is in charge of taking photos at all Youth Group activities and events. He or she must have an eye for composition and always be ready to capture that special moment. If the Photographer / Historian cannot be at an event or activity, they must make sure there is another dedicated photographer to take photos and videos and archive them for the yearbook and website.  The P/H will be responsible for editing and posting photos and videos on the website after each event.

G-UNIT STAFF (everyone on this round table)

: Has a responsibility to be leaders.  Showing by example, they must be the ones talking to and welcoming new faces, the first ones to volunteer for prayers, sing the loudest during praise rallies, etc, etc – BE ROLE MODELS.  All G-Unit staff are expected to make it to as many activities as they can. If they cannot make it to a schedule activity for personal or school reasons, they must notify the HS teachers.

G-unit will have required leadership training sessions, and service activities throughout the year as well reward dinners and recognition events.
